Microsoft announced that Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get the chance to play "NBA 2K15" for free this weekend.
The company's offer will begin on Friday, April 24 at 12 midnight and will last until Monday, April 27 at 12:01 a.m., according to Cinema Blend.
Microsoft noted that the move to offer "NBA 2K15" for free to Xbox Live Gold members is the company's way of celebrating the start of this season's NBA Playoffs.
During that period, gamers will be able to enjoy the full version of the game, and not just its multiplayer aspect or a trimmed down edition of it.
In addition, those who will purchase the game after trying it out this weekend will receive a discount and other content.
"While playing this weekend, if you decided you'd like to keep playing after the event, we have a special discount this weekend only on the 'NBA 2K15 Bundle,' which includes 15,000 [virtual currency], for 40$ off MSRP," Microsoft said in a press release via Xbox Wire.
"Plus, all 'NBA 2K15' virtual currency for Xbox One is 33% off all weekend long," the company added.
Aside from the bundle, Microsoft explained that the players' saved progress and other game data from this weekend's event can be transferred after purchasing "NBA 2K15."
For virtual basketball fans, Microsoft's "NBA 2K15" is not the only sports-themed game that's being offered for free. Earlier this year, game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) announced that it has included its own "NBA Live 15" as a free-to-play game through its subscription service EA Access, Game Spot reported.
EA noted that only those with an EA Access membership for $5 per month or $30 per year can access the game. However, unlike Microsoft's offer, EA's free "NBA Live 15" does not have a time limit.
The other sports-related games that EA is offering for free on EA Access include "EA Sports UFC," "FIFA 14" and "Madden NFL 25."
