Hasbro and Paramount Pictures continue on with the ‘Transformers’ franchise, and ‘Age of Extinction’ will not be the final film in the series. While there has been news that ‘Transformers 5’ and other live-action installments will be developed, there have been scarce details regarding their actual release dates.

Last month, Paramount was reportedly putting together a “writer’s room” for the film franchise as it seeks to develop “multi-part Transformers sequels” as well as “potential spin-off films.” This month, Hasbro carried out its first quarter earnings call for 2015 and shared their approach in the upcoming ‘Transformers’ movie.

‘I Am Legend’ writer Akiva Goldsman has been set to put together such “writer’s room” together with Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura as members of the development team.

"We think there’s any number of stories to be told. It’s a brand that’s been around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology,” Hasbro President and CEO Brian Goldner said. “We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017.”

Goldman will not take part in writing any of the upcoming films but will offer insight into their development; meanwhile, screenwriters are to be hired. Bay is reportedly planning to take over the next film as soon as he is done with his Benghazi drama 13 Hours.

‘Transformers’ star Mark Wahlberg, who previously starred in the ‘Age of Extinction’ movie, will still make an appearance in the franchise’s future films.

Recently, the actor has returned to the big screen after being announced as producer of ‘Patriots’ Day.’ The movie focuses on the events in searching for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the main suspect in the bombing of the 2013 Boston Marathon.

The 43-year-old actor is also reportedly in talks to take on a leading role in the film as he does not have a forthcoming movie to work on next. Wahlberg and Scott Stuber, a co-producer on ‘Patriots’ Day’, recently collaborated on comedy sequel ‘Ted 2.’

“Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more. I can’t speak for Mr. Bay, but something tells me we’ll be on set soon,” Wahlberg said, when asked about his possible return to future ‘Transformers’ movies.

Released in 2014, “Age of Extinction” grossed over $1 billion at the global box office while all four ‘Transformers’ movies combined have already grossed over $3.7 billion.
