Some Nexus 7 and Nexus 5 users are complaining that their devices have stopped working after installing the Android Lollipop updates.
Although it is not yet confirmed as to which Lollipop version is affecting the devices, a compatibility issue with the hardware could be causing the problem, 9to5Mac reported.
The problem started in December of last year after several users wrote on Google product forums that the Lollipop updates caused their devices to freeze. Many users noted that their devices stopped working and got stuck on the Google logo boot screen.
But not all Nexus devices are affected by the problem, though. Most of the complainants were using the Nexus 7 2013 and Nexus 7 2012 tablets while some were owners of the Nexus 5 smartphone. They said the problem occurred within days or weeks after installing the Android 5.0 and 5.0.2 Lollipop updates.
Google and Asus have not yet released official statements regarding the issues faced by some of their consumers. However, some users noted that Asus has contacted them and said it is willing to repair their devices for $200 since the problem is not covered by the warranty agreement.
As to what may have caused the problem, NDTV explained that the issue might be related to hardware incompatibility. If this is true, then the affected users might have to replace their devices.
One user said on Google's product forum that after taking the tablet to a repair shop, an employee said that the only solution is to get a new logic board.
"I actually had a follow-up call from a Tablet Repair shop in my city," the user posted. "They said that they have seen these problems come in on Nexus devices lately, and they are completely unable to make any repairs on them and require having the entire logic board replaced."
"So all you people who have pictures, videos, etc. on your Nexus...kiss them goodbye," the user added.
