Olivia Munn has signed on to the cast of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ to portray Betsy Braddock, more popularly known as Psylocke.

On Monday, director Bryan Singer made the announcement on Instagram that Munn will play the telepathic mutant in the upcoming sequel.

Psylocke was first featured in the comic books in 1976 and was created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe for the British "Captain Britain" series in the 1970s and '80s. Her character subsequently joined the X-Men in 1987's "Uncanny X-Men" No. 213.

Since then, Psylocke has become one of the main members of the team and the spin-off series, such as ‘Exiles’ and ‘X-Force.’

However, she did not make a regular appearance in the previous films; she was only featured in 2006’s ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ where she was shown as a minor villain who followed Magneto; her character was played by Mei Melancon.

Following the main story, Psylocke’s powers have undergone several changes but mainly include telepathy and telekinesis.

Munn joins fellow newcomer Lana Condon, who is set to play Jubilee; they will portray their roles alongside James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Rose Byrne, all of whom will be reprising their roles as Professor X, Magneto, Beast and Moira McTaggert, respectively.

Oscar Isaac, who stars in the upcoming ‘Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens’, and Kodi Smit-McPhee, who previously appeared in ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ have also signed on to the film.

Singer also recently confirmed that British actor Ben Hardy (‘EastEnders’) will portray the winged Angel.

Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, who portrayed Magneto and Professor X, respectively, will not be making a comeback for the upcoming installment. ‘X-Men: Apocalypse will also be Jennifer Lawrence’s last movie where she will play Mystique, the 24-year-old Academy Award-winner confirmed.

Singer is directing the film based on a script written by Simon Kinberg, Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' is set for an official release on May 27, 2016.

Meanwhile, Munn recently appeared in ‘Mortdecai’ alongside Johnny Depp and in last year’s ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ with Eric Bana.

The 34-year-old TV personality is currently filming ‘Ride Along 2’, an action comedy film starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, which will hit theaters early next year.
