Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson believes in British actor Benedict Cumberbatch's capabilities so much that he is not the least bit worried if the actor will be able to pull off an American accent for his new role in Marvel's new superhero film, which is slated for release on November.

"It's a good question. We have not discussed the accent with him yet, but he's Benedict Cumberbatch, so I think he can do anything we ask him," he told MTV.

There is a possibility though that Cumberbatch won't have to ditch his British accent though, if the producers decide that their version of Dr. Stephen Strange will be British.

Dr. Strange is a brilliant neurosurgeon who lost his powers after suffering from a terrible accident. Because of this, he spends his time learning mystical arts in order to become the Sorcerer Supreme.

For Cumberbatch's part, he said that he is very excited to take on the role of Dr. Strange. He knows there is a lot of work to be done but he cannot wait to get started on it.

At the same time, the actor told the Wall Street Journal that the role of Dr. Strange isn't so much of a risk because Marvel Cinematic Universe is handling it.

"Marvel is a stable of bringing out ordinary comic characters and turning them into screen-like gods. It's very different, it's an Astral Plane. There's a huge new element to this Marvel universe that's going to be employed in building this story and this character," he said.

The level of admiration and respect he has for Derrickson is quite evident and mutual too, since he said that the director has an "endless" imagination and everybody working for Marvel really knows their stuff.

Growing up, Cumberbatch joked that he was very "deprived" since he did not get to read any comic books, but now that he has nabbed the role of Dr. Strange, he became quite an avid comic book reader.

Cumberbatch added that he's very excited for the "spiritual dimension" of the film, since it is something that has been a huge part of his life. When asked for more details, Cumberbatch said that people will simply have to "wait and see."

Before he gets on superhero mode though, Cumberbatch will have to finish his stage production of Hamlet as well as work on the Christmas special of the hit television show Sherlock.
