Taylor Swift has always been very open to her fans and followers about her experiences in life regardless if those involve happy news or heartbreaking announcements. In her latest post in her official account in the blogging site, Tumblr, the widely popular singer shared that her mother, Andrea Finlay, was diagnosed with cancer.

In the post, titled Just So You Know, Swift shared the news that rocked the core of her person and their entire family. "I'm writing to you with an update I wish I wasn't giving you, but it's important and I'm used to sharing important events in my life with you," the Styles singer wrote.

Admitting that she normally uses her songs to express her feelings and open her heart to the world, Swift asserted that she needed to be straightforward with the details of this personal struggle this time around. "This is something my family and I thought you should know about now," the multi-awarded artist disclosed, referring to their decision to tell the public about the situation.

The singer then went on to provide fans a bit of a background of the events that led to the situation their family is in at the moment. Swift shared that one the gifts she asked from her mother last Christmas was to visit the doctor to undergo medical examinations to determine the state of her health. Although her mother was initially reluctant, she eventually relented to the wishes of her children. "There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine," described Swift.

"The results came in," the chart-topping musician continued, "and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer." Upon learning of the situation, Swift's first course of action was to keep the matter away from the public eye and to exercise every caution to protect their privacy. However, her mother wanted to go about the ordeal in a completely different manner. "I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know," Swift admitted in the post.

"She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle. Or peace of mind in knowing that they're healthy and there's nothing to worry about," the artist went on to elucidate her mother's decision. "She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight," Swift added.

At present, no further information has been released regarding the state of the singer's mother.
