The 20th Century Fox and Hasbro are currently in talks to produce a live action Play-Doh film.
According to Yahoo! Movies, the two companies are inspired by the success of The Lego Movie and want to bring that same success to another beloved childhood toy - Play-Doh.
Fox has already worked on other toy movies such as the Transformers and G.I. Joe, and they are eyeing the rebooted Ghostbusters director Paul Feig, who also handled Bridesmaid and the Snoopy movie, to direct it. According to reports, there have already been several meetings about the live action Play-Doh film and Jason Micallef is being considered to write the script.
When Feig was first presented with the idea, he was incredulous. "Honestly, when it was first brought to me and they asked 'Can you make a movie out of this' I thought the same thing as everyone, like 'What do you do with that?'" he said.
But Feig said that they actually have "one of the funniest pitches I've ever heard in my life" so he is pretty excited how the movie will turn out.
For now, all he can say is that there will be a mix of "claymation" and CGI animation.
Feig wants people to reserve their opinions about his upcoming works before it hits the big screen, because according to the filmmaker, sometimes people ruin movies with their preconceived notions.
"The problem with the business in general is that stuff gets announced and nobody knows any context for what you're going to do or what your idea is, and so all they have is the ability to just lose their minds," he said.
He said that that's exactly what happened with Ghostbusters. People think that his all-female rebooted Ghostbusters will already be "the absolute worst version of whatever it is that they think you're going to do" but that is not even the case. All Feig wants to tell people is to "just wait" and see how the movie is going to turn out.
Feig's Ghostbusters will star funny actresses Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Saturday Night Live stars Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
He clarified that his version will not be connected in any way to another Ghostbusters reboot that is currently in the works, which might star 21 Jump Street actor Channing Tatum and Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt. Captain America: Winter Soldiers filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo will be developing the said film.
