A quality test procedure conducted on the Galaxy S6 Edge revealed that Samsung's smartphone bends under the same weight pressure as Apple's iPhone 6 Plus.

This could mean that the Bendgate controversy that once swirled around Apple could come back to haunt Samsung instead, according to The Verge.

The test on the Galaxy S6 Edge was conducted by Square Trade, a firm that provides extended warranty service for electronic products. Based on the test, the metal casings of both the iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy S6 Edge can bend under the same amount of weight, which is about 110 pounds of pressure.

Although the device remained intact at this level, the smartphone's screen cracked when the pressure was increased to 149 pounds. The screen of the iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, fractured when 179 pounds of pressure was applied on it.

Given the test results, Samsung might be facing the return of the Bendgate issue. When the controversy first emerged for Apple shortly after the release of the iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung immediately released viral material that targeted the quality of the company's products.

Although Bendgate has been exaggerated, Samsung could learn a lot from Apple in dealing with such a controversy.

After several iPhone 6 Plus owners came forward and detailed how their smartphones bent after being inside their jeans pockets, Apple defended its products through various means, Forbes has learned.

For one, the company said the complaints regarding Bendgate were not that many and even invited journalists to visit the Apple's quality assurance facilities. In addition, Apple offered to replace iPhones that bent unintentionally.

But given how Apple handled the situation, it is also possible that the public won't give too much attention on Samsung's possible Bendgate issue. After all, it was already proven that due to the thin casings of today's devices, almost any smartphone model will bend if subjected to high pressure tests.

Aside from the iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung Galaxy 6S Edge, Square Trade also conducted the bend test on the HTC One M9 and got the same results.
