Andy Murray Competes in Aegon Championships

Andy Murray defeated Kevin Anderson on Tuesday’s match in the 2015 Miami Open. He won 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Murray is the first British man to win 500 matches in professional tennis. Murray, 27, thanked people through his Twitter account.

 

"Thanks to everyone for the messages today ... Never imagined reaching 500 wins when I first started on the tour!" Murray tweeted. Thanks to all the fans who have supported me throughout my career so far it's much appreciated and I'll keep trying to make you happy. Also to my family, friends and my team for all their encouragement and support and for always sticking by me and to the haters I love you all."

Murray advances to the quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 1. Murray will face Austrian player Dominic Thiem. The Miami Open is a part of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000. The type of courts the players compete on is hard surface. The prize money is over $4 million.

"I spend a few months a year in Miami for my training blocks and my place is only half an hour from Key Biscayne, so this tournament is as close as it gets to home when I’m stateside," said Murray on his official website. "Because I train on these courts during the year, it means I have a great feel for the surface."

Murray holds two grand slam titles. He won at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships in and the 2012 US Open. In 2014, he was awarded the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year Award by the ATP World Tour. He began his pro career in year 2005. He is right-handed and is coached by Amelie Mauresmo.
