The Overflow is a mobile application that streams unlimited Christian music on iOS and Android devices. It is the first of its kind. The Christian Gospel subscription service is available for a free one week trial. The app made its debut in January 2015.
It closely resembles popular music streaming apps like Spotify, Google Play Music, and Pandora. The main exception that sets the Overflow apart from the rest is the fact that only Christian content can be found through this app. Another rare find is that the Overflow costs half the price of the usual streaming app. Most companies charge $9.99 per month, whereas the Overflow charges only $4.99 per month.
The music app places focus on a Christian community that is currently being underserved. Stephen Relph is the CEO of The Overflow. Chris Shaban is the co-founder.
"The heart behind The Overflow is that through both the music and the devotionals, Christ followers would become so filled with the Holy Spirit, that we can't help but overflow with love for others that we impact culture broadly for Jesus Christ," Relph wrote in an email to Christianity Daily.
The Overflow has worked with other popular Christian apps such as YouVersion. It connected leading Christian music artists to listeners by sharing their video devotionals online. Relph quoted Isaiah 55:11 to explain why the company collaborated with YouVersion.
"God's word does not return void, but accomplishes the purpose for which it was sent," Relph said in an interview with Christian Post. The online devotionals can be accessed for free through the YouVersion app. Relph called it "an opportunity to really make Christian music with the devotional a powerful combination for spiritual growth."
