Destiny’s Child made a surprise appearance last March 28 when the trio performed for the taping of the 2015 Stellar Gospel Music Awards at Las Vegas’ Orleans Arena. Brought together by an act of God, Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland reunited with former group member Michelle Williams to perform her new single ‘Say Yes.’
The song, which was nominated for three awards on Saturday, firstly appeared on Williams' religious album 'Journey To Freedom', which was released in 2014.
The group went onstage in traditional cream-colored jackets and designer jeans as they superbly performed the seven-minute song, which includes a riff centered on a Nigerian gospel song titled 'When Jesus Say Yes.'
Williams previously shared the story behind the recording of the song with her group members, saying to the media: "Kelly did it and Beyonce got right in the studio and did her part. I kept it a secret because I didn't want anyone to know until it was time."
Moreover, Destiny’s Child also filmed a music video for 'Say Yes.' Williams shared her sentiments about feeling nostalgic and calling her group members her "sisters", considering what they have gone through in the past years, regardless of splitting up as a musical group.
Destiny’s Child was first established in 1990 and sold roughly 60 million records before splitting up in 2006. The girls previously appeared at the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show for a comeback performance.
The Stellar Awards show, featuring the Destiny's Child comeback performance, will air on April 5, Sunday, at 8 p.m. on TV One.
Meanwhile, Beyonce has recently finished recording a full album which was eventually scrapped, as stated by one of her record producers- The Dream. Taking on a Fela Kuti vibe, the singer recorded about 20 songs to imitate the classic afrobeat sound, many of which have remained unreleased.
The Dream previously worked with Beyonce on several songs, including the chart-topping track ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).’ He announced the news in his entry for lyric annotation site Genius.
"We did a whole Fela album that didn’t go up. It was right before we did [the album] '4'," The Dream wrote. "We did a whole different sounding thing, about twenty songs. She said she wanted to do something that sounds like Fela. That’s why there's so much of that sound in the 'End of Time'.
The rapper-producer further explained about making “multiple albums” as part of the creative process and expressed his confidence in Beyonce's writing and singing abilities.
With the 'Halo' singer reuniting with her former group members for the Stellar Awards show, fans can further expect that a Destiny's Child biopic could be in the works. After Beyonce's father, Matthew Knowles, announced that he had proposed an untitled film to Sony and Lifetime, former Destiny's Child member LeToya Luckett also dropped hints that a movie about the girl group could be possible, saying that such project should be "done the right way."
