The late Joan Rivers has spoken highly of several well-known celebrities but there was someone in particular she was not pleased with - comedian Ben Stiller.
The actor spoke with Howard Stern of Fox News and revealed that he was not able to make amends with Rivers before her death last year. While Stiller knew about Rivers' negative feelings towards him, he never really understood why the talk show host was displeased with him.
Stiller told Stern that Rivers "had a thing" against him and that was why she did not like him.
He could only suspect that it has something to do with his parents' friendship with her, since he never even got to talk to Rivers.
"I never had an interaction with her," Stiller said. "I didn't understand why she didn't like me - I mean I can understand that someone doesn't like me, whatever... You're allowed to have your opinion, but she had a thing because she was friends with my parents."
However, Stern revealed the real reason behind Rivers' animosity towards Stiller. He said that Stiller snubbed her on the red carpet when he should have said "hi" and talked to her given her relationship with his parents.
The actor explained that he does not even recall the snub but added that he was "sure it did" happen. He recalls that Rivers was asked in a documentary before what she thought of Stiller, and the late talk show host answered: "lucky." The actor said that was probably where all "the beef started."
Still, Stiller says that he has no bad feelings towards Rivers and believes that talking about past dramas and mistakes is necessary to heal and move on. He even said that he admired Rivers and lamented that they never got the chance to make amends before her death.
"But she was great and I feel bad that we never got to work that out," he said. "My parents were really friends with her and spent a lot of time and worked with her and she had an amazing career."
Stiller just starred in the movie Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb with the late Robin Williams, and will next be seen in the movie While We're Young with Naomi Watts and Amanda Seyfried.
He will also be reprising his role as the hilarious fashion model Derek Zoolander in Zoolander 2 with Owen Wilson, which will be released sometime next year.
