According to popular belief, America is the land where people are fed so well that the only epidemic it faces is obesity. The irony lies in the fact that thousands of Americans are suffering daily from lack of adequate food.

America’s leading cereal brand, General Mills has teamed up with country singer Reba McEntire to fight hunger. They are working with a non-profit organization called Feeding America to get meals to families. Feeding America feeds over 46 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other agencies.

“I was shocked when they told me one out of six people are hungry in this nation, the land of the plenty!" Reba said in an interview with People. "It doesn't matter where you live, in the city or the country, if you cannot get access to food, you and your family will be hungry, and that is so sad. Children can't learn and parents can't work when they're hungry."

Starting in April 2015, Reba’s face will be on the box of General Mills cereal boxes. It is the fourth time General Mills has worked with Outnumber Hunger.

A process of entering codes will enable Feeding America to attain five meals on behalf of food banks. General Mills donates 50 cents for every code entered on the Outnumber Hunger website. According to the website, the program has attained over 35 million meals since year 2011.

Website visitors are encouraged to help out in three different ways. Making a cash donation, promoting the program via social media, and volunteering at a local food bank are all ways that help keep America fed.

On Friday, April 17, Reba will host a event called Reba and Friends Outnumber Hunger. The event is a live concert with other artists from Big Machine Records. Tim McGraw, the Eli Young Band and Rascal Flatts are three of the many famous artists who will perform at the concert.

It will feature music from Reba’s latest album, Love Somebody. The concert will broadcast on television and will be featured in an exclusive radio interview with iHeartMedia. The proceeds from the concert will go towards helping Feeding America.
