Tech firm LG Electronics announced that users of its flagship smartphone G2 will be receiving the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.

The update for the LG G2 first arrived to South Korean users in January and is expected to hit India sometime this year, NDTV reported.

News of the Lollipop's arrival was confirmed by LG India after responding to an inquiry from a Twitter user. According to the company, the update will be rolled out for the LG G2 in India during the second quarter of 2015. In other words, the update could arrive between April and June.

The LG G2 was first unveiled by the company in 2013 and originally ran on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system. In March of last year, LG upgraded its system to the Android 4.4 KitKat.

Aside from the G2, LG is also preparing to launch the Android 5.0 Lollipop for the G3 smartphone. First released in May of 2014, the out of the box version of the device came with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Through its service providers, LG is currently updating the G3 with the Lollipop.

The first group of LG G3 users who will receive the update are those residing in the U.K. with the help of the telecom company Vodafone. U.S. users can also expect to receive the update but there are no official release dates yet as to when the Lollipop will arrive for their G3s, according to Tech Radar.

Apart from LG's G-series of devices, other companies have also begun releasing Google's latest operating system to their own smartphones.

HTC recently updated the One M8 to feature the Lollipop update while its upcoming flagship smartphone, the One M9, will also be unveiled with the same operating system.

Similarly, Sony recently announced that its Xperia Z-series will receive the Android 5.0 update. The company however, did not mention exactly when the Lollipop will arrive for the mobile devices.
