After dancing her way through several seasons in the comedy-drama TV series, ‘Glee,’ Dianna Agron is expected to move forward to the West End where she will be showcasing her singing and dancing skills as well.
Agron made the announcement on Twitter last Friday as the 28-year-old actress revealed that she will be travelling to the United Kingdom to make her stage debut in May.
"Feels so wonderful to finally be able to say...this is happening. #McqueenThePlay," the ‘Glee’ star wrote on Twitter.
Loosely based on the award-winning fashion designer Alexander McQueen who died in 2010, the play revolves around a fictional story of Dahlia, a devoted fan who trespasses into the designer’s house to steal a dress. After being caught by McQueen, the two develop a close bond and decide to explore London’s streets.
Helmed by James Phillips, such story was written to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the designer’s death.
“I loved McQueen as a designer and I love the way they have shaped this story,” Agron stated. “It’s not biographical, it’s fantasy-based.” The actress also described the designer’s work as “so theatrical and so imaginative.”
Aside from Agron, who will be playing Dahlia, ‘Bluestone 42’ actor Stephen Wight has also been signed on to portray McQueen. Former ‘EastEnders’ actress Tracy Ann-Oberman will also take on the role of Isabella Blow, McQueen’s friend and fellow designer.
Wight appeared last in the West End play, ‘The Ladykillers.’ When asked about the upcoming ‘McQueen’ play, the actor expressed his excitement and approval for such role.
“I couldn’t turn down the chance to take on the role of Alexander McQueen,” the 35-year-old actor said. “He was a London boy who came from a humble background, a bit like myself, trying to get ahead in an artistic world. James has done a wonderful job of capturing the complexity of him.”
The play will run at London’s St. James Theatre from May 12 to June 6.
Aside from joining the McQueen play, Agron is also expected to spend more time in the United Kingdom as she is reportedly dating Jack Street, a British music manager.
The actress is not the only ‘Glee’ star to hit the stage this year as Darren Criss will also be making a comeback on Broadway to portray Hedwig Robinson in ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch.’
