Pharrell Williams, NBC’s “The Voice” reality television show judge and Grammy award-winning music artist, celebrates International Day of Happiness on Friday, March 20 by inviting everyone to a "Global Happy Party." International Day of Happiness was established by the United Nations in 2013 to promote happiness and raise public awareness of global climate change. Pharrell is an American singer, songwriter, rapper and producer.

The party is not occurring at a physical location but is open for all people to join through the internet. People are invited to take and upload four photos of themselves dancing at the website: GlobalHappyParty.Com. These photos are instantly combined to create a unique animated gif. The gif is set to the 2015 Grammy award-winning hit single, "Happy." Upon creation of the gif, users are given a link to view the gif again later or to share with friends to raise further awareness of the issue of global climate change.

“In a year where there is so much turmoil in the world, from social conflict to climate change, we need moments to stop and celebrate happiness,” Pharrell said in a statement. “Protecting our planet is fundamental to the pursuit of human happiness and that is why we have chosen to support Live Earth’s movement to raise a billion voices for climate action. We believe that happiness can change the world.” He hopes to attain 1 billion signatures on the Live Earth petition on the issue of climate change before the UN's conference in December.

Pharrell is the Creative Director of Live Earth, an organization founded by Al Gore and Kevin Wall. Live Earth exists to raise awareness of the Earth’s climate change and of the Paris conference. It is a series of concerts that will be performed in America, Europe and Asia.

“2015 is a critical year of opportunity for global action to achieve the future we want. For health and economic development for the happiness of every person we must address climate change,” said Kathy Calvin, President and CEO of UN Foundation. “The UN Foundation is proud to join forces with Pharrell to support United Nations’ efforts for a better world.

On Friday Pharrell lit up the Empire State building in New York yellow lights to commemorate the day. He was joined by representatives from Live Earth and the United Nations.

He also worked with Internet radio station Pandora in creating a mixtape to spread happiness while moving fans to action about global climate change. The topic is being followed, tagged, liked, shared, tweeted and favorite by celebrities and world leaders on social media sites as #HappyDay and #HappyPlanet..
