Actress Cate Blanchett revealed that she would prefer to have an appearance on the ITV drama series ‘Downton Abbey,’ as reported by Digital Spy.
As she went on an interview to promote ‘Cinderella’ in which she starred as the cruel stepmother, Blanchett said that she has already talked to her agent and the other people involved in the show. However, the 45-year-old actress has not yet heard anything regarding a possible cameo role on the hit TV series. She even joked about following up with co-star and ‘Downton Abbey’ star Lily James.
"I did have words, and I followed up with my agent. No call has yet been received — but I'm seeing the girls again today, so I'll get them to put a good word in," said Blanchett.
Meanwhile, as the sixth season of the drama series is currently in production, there have been speculations that this could be the last ever season for ‘Downton Abbey.’ More buzz was created after one of the series’ stars, Maggie Smith a.k.a The Dowager Countess, said that season six would be her last.
"They say this is the last one, and I can't see how it could go on," the 80-year-old actress said. "I mean, I certainly can't keep going ... To my knowledge, I must be 110 by now. We're into the late 1920s."
Julian Fellowes, the show’s creator and writer, will also begin working on NBC’s period drama ‘The Gilded Age.’
At an INTV panel in Jerusalem, the audience members were supposedly banned from putting forward questions about the final season for ‘Downton Abbey. Fellowes also did not entertain questions about Smith and her statement that she will be leaving after the sixth season.
"You can ask those; we just won't answer," Fellowes said.
Nonetheless, fans of the show can still look forward to a new season that will bring forth new opportunities to get to know the new changes, opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the characters, as announced by ITV and Carnival Films.
"We have had an amazing reaction to the story lines, acting and production values of Downton Abbey this year and the whole team is thrilled to be moving ahead with a new season of the show," Gareth Neame, Carnival’s managing director, said in an official statement. "This will provide audiences with a fresh opportunity to see what will befall our much loved characters."
