HTC confirmed that its latest One M9 smartphone will not get a Google Play Edition.

The revelation was made by Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC Americas, during the video presentation for the company's Uh Oh replacement program.

Since the M9's predecessor, the One M8, came out with a Google Play Edition after its release, a lot of HTC users have been wondering if the company's newest smartphone will also come out with the feature.

This issue was clarified by Mackenzie during the presentation's question and answer portion via Twitter, according to Trusted Reviews.

"No, there will not be a Google Play Edition for the M9," the company president said in response to a question sent by a Twitter user.

Given the decreasing lineup of Android smartphones with the Google Play Edition, it's not totally surprising that the HTC One M9 will not get the feature.

Earlier this year, tech news site Pocket Now reported that Google has started dismantling the Google Play program by removing Android-powered smartphones from its roster. The last device that remained but was eventually pulled out by Google was the HTC One M8.

After confirming that its latest smartphone will not have a Google Play Edition, HTC teased that a One M9 running on the Windows system could possibly hit the market. This could most likely happen since the company unveiled the HTC One M8 Windows last year.

Mackenzie however, remained tight-lipped regarding the Windows version of the M9 and said further smartphone-related announcements will be made by the company in the near future.

The executive noted that the HTC One M9 will hit the U.S. market on April 10, the same day its competitor, the Samsung Galaxy S6 , will debut.

The One M9 runs on the Android 5.0 Lollipop and is powered by the Qualcomm 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor. It has a 5-inch display with 1080p resolution and 20.7-megapixel camera.
