The E! network has placed ‘Fashion Police’ on hiatus, only five days after a second host exited the show. The series will return on September, as announced on Tuesday by the network, with three scheduled episodes being called off.
While Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin have both left the show, remaining hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski will be back this fall.
The show was initially set to broadcast its next episode on March 30. Griffin, who joined 'Fashion Police' as its newest host following the death of Joan Rivers in September, announced on Twitter last March 12 that she was quitting the show even after going on only seven episodes.
Meanwhile, Osbourne has been a regular host on ‘Fashion Police’ since 2011 but announced her departure from the show last February 27.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, E! is planning to make some time in finding new show hosts who can replace Osbourne and Griffin as well as give its future episodes a fresh change in perspective.
“With the benefit of hindsight, we definitely brought it back too soon,” Frances Berwick, president of NBCUniversal Lifestyle Networks Group, shared. “There’s a lot that’s frivolous about the whole Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe parade, and then at the heart of it, there’s some great, creative work. E! is not a network that takes itself seriously.”
Kathy made an appearance on ‘The View’ on Monday, where she explained that she felt uneasy about the “dog pile” aspect of Fashion Police, describing it as “disingenuous.”
According to the comedienne, she was obliged to make nasty comments about images of beautiful women and their dresses. “As a feminist and a comic, it just didn't feel like the right fit for me,” Griffin explained.
After announcing her decision to quit ‘Fashion Police’, several famous personalities showed approval and tweeted their praises; these included Osbourne, who posted the following message on Twitter: “I could not be more proud of you @kathygriffin you have my love and support always.'
Osbourne exited ‘Fashion Police’ shortly after the discussion regarding Rancic’s controversial comment about Zendaya Coleman’s hair at the Oscars event.
During the show’s special Oscars episode, the longtime host blurted out that Coleman looked as though her hair smelled of “patchouli oil” or “weed.”
Currently, famous personalities who are reportedly being considered to replace Osbourne include Chrissy Teigen, Khloe Kardashian, Naya Rivera, NeNe Leakes and Amber Rose, although producers will still have to find a replacement for Griffin.
