Miles Teller does such a convincing job portraying the arrogant and heartless Peter in the Divergent series that there's already a line of people who want to get into battle with him.

But in the sequel Insurgent, his character experiences and shares a brief moment of unexpected kindness which significantly helps the lead characters Tris Prior played by Shailene Woodley and her love interest Four played by Theo James in their mission.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Teller admitted that he was also shocked with the lengths his character will go through just to save his own skin.

"I remember I was having a hard time, I beat up Shailene, I beat up Tris in the first one, so I said, 'That's tough man. You're beating up a girl.' And they said, 'Well that's the world.' I said, 'Alright." And then I stabbed someone in the eye with a butter knife just so that I make sure I'm not eliminated from this Dauntless world and that was kind of hard," he said.

But in Insurgent, Peter experiences an emotional shift. "Well I think you're fighting to make him likable," said Teller. "Redeeming" Peter is very difficult, according to the actor, "but in this one (Insurgent) you get to see a little more of his complexities."

"Obviously he has motives, his biggest motive is to save himself and in this movie you see him for the first time think about somebody else and try to pay them back or return the favour, and he's really an integral alliance for Tris in this film," he revealed.

It was extremely difficult for Teller to play the bad guy then try to make him look good, but being in the Divergent cast has its merits too.

He shared that he really enjoyed some of the physical activities they did for Divergent, such as throwing knives and gun training.

"For the first one we had a whole boot camp of stuff, this one there is not as much because this one we're out of that whole Dauntless training and we're just kind of doing our thing. But in the first one we got to throw knives and do a little gun tactical work which was cool and some basic fight training which was fun," he said.

Teller will soon portray a lead character - Reed Richards - in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. However, the actor has chosen to remain very tight-lipped about Fantastic Four and refused to spill any details about the film.
