With a new version of The Joker being portrayed on FOX's 'Gotham', actor Cameron Monaghan has dropped hints of the villain's possible return on the show.

Monaghan made his impressively gruesome debut on ‘Gotham’ last month in the episode titled ‘The Blind Fortune Teller.’ However, this might not be the last time that fans will get to see the villain on the series.

"When I was on set, we discussed the possibly of me coming back in the second or third season," Monaghan told CBR News. "Nothing is set in stone yet.”

The actor also mentioned that the producers do have a definite plan for villains’ appearances in future episodes but such plan has not been shared with him. The 21-year-old actor shared that he would “love to come back and do some more.”

It may seem possible that Monaghan will return to the show as ‘Gotham’ creator Bruno Heller stated that such episode was just “the beginning of the story of how the Joker came to be.” In the ‘Blind Fortune Teller’ episode, the actor portrayed young Jerome who worked at Haley’s circus and murdered his own mother.

According to Monaghan, the Joker character is easily likeable, thanks to his shrewdness and wits.

“I very much adore the sadistic nature of him. There's his ability to remain cool and calm and cunning,” he said, referring to the nature of the iconic villain. “He enjoys making other people squirm, which I think is fascinating. He enjoys pressing buttons a little bit.

Monaghan also shared that he wanted to see where the show will take Jerome, whether ‘Gotham’ will show the character falling into a vat of chemicals or put him forward as a man who preferred to put on makeup, similar to the villain’s portrayal in the Batman films by Christopher Nolan.

Many of Batman’s villains have already been introduced during the first season of ‘Gotham’, such as Scarecrow, Penguin, Riddler and Poson Ivy.

It has been rumored that ‘Gotham’ is in talks with Chris Chalk to portray Wayne Enterprises’ tech expert Lucius Fox; moreover, one major character is unlikely to return for the second season.
