Ibrahim and her family had previously attempted to flee Sudan, but had been re-arrested at the airport. The family is now safely located in the U.S. Embassy but is hoping to be able to move to the U.S. soon.
A Daily Mail report says that “the room where the family are staying [is] ‘full of shelves and books’ with a large plasma screen TV to keep them entertained. They are being looked after by an embassy worker called Patricia.”
Ibrahim and her family are reported to look healthy and in good condition.
Maya, Meriam Ibrahim’s two-month-old daughter, was born inside the prison. Despite concerns that she might have been born with disabilities because of the poor conditions in which she was born, she is reported to be a healthy baby. The Daily Mail reports that she will be undergoing ultrasound to confirm that she will be able to walk.
