Fans of James Cameron's Avatar have a lot to be happy about since its sequel has already been scheduled on December 25, 2017.

And even though the movie is still years away, fans will be getting a huge treat since the first trailer might be released this year during the premiere of the rebooted Fantastic Four movie, according to The Venture Capitalist Post.

The sequel for the 2009 Avatar film will continue the story of Jake Sully, the lead character of the original film. Even though the production details for Avatar 2 has been held under wraps, Cameron has revealed some details about the sequel's plot and it is enough to keep fans going for the meantime.

The director revealed that the sequel will show Sully's extended family in the world of Pandora. "It's going to be a lot of new imagery and a lot of new environments and creatures across Pandora," he said.

There were earlier reports that the director wanted to take Avatar 2 to a different location since he said: "We're blowing it out all over the place. At first I thought I was going to take it onto other worlds as well, in the same solar system," he said, adding that "it turned out not to be necessary."

But the director has clarified that the speculations were wrong.

"I mean the Pandora that we have imagined will be a fantasy land that is going to occupy people for decades to come, the way I see it," Cameron explained. "It's been inaccurately said that the second film takes place underwater. That's not true."

In fact, they will be exploring Pandora even further and fans are definitely going to get a visual treat from the filmmaking genius. "There are underwater scenes and surface-water scenes having to do with indigenous ocean cultures that are distributed across the three films," he said.

The director even compared the sequel to "The Godfather" trilogy, explaining that Sully and Neytiri will be building their new families in the upcoming sequel.

This means that Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will be reprising their roles, and even Sigourney Weaver will be back. But this time, Weaver won't be Dr. Grace Augustine since the character was killed off in the first movie.

Avatar 2's release date will be on December 25, 2017. The third instalment's release date has not been set yet but fans can be assured that it will indeed be happening.
