Walt Disney Company is really digging through its archives by making live action movies out of beloved classic animated tales. They started with a reimagining of Sleeping Beauty and created Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie last year, then followed it with Cinderella starring Lily James, Richard Madden and Cate Blanchett which is due for release in a couple of days.

There have also been reports of Beauty and the Beast in the works, which will star Harry Potter alum Emma Watson and Downton Abbey alum Dan Stevens as well as The Hobbit actor Luke Evans as Gaston. Then there's The Jungle Book starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the tiger, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, and Christian Bale as the panther Bagheera. New actor Rohan Chand will play Mowgli while Bill Murray will be Mowgli's good friend and companion Baloo.

Now, there's another classical tale in the works - Dumbo!

Director Tim Burton has signed on to do the project, The Wall Street Journal reports. Dumbo is the story of a young elephant with gigantic ears and the ability to fly. Since it would be pretty impossible to find a real elephant that can fly, the movie will mix real actors with computer-generated effects.

This is not the first time Tim Burton worked on a Disney movie. He collaborated with them before in creating Alice in Wonderland and Frankenweenie.

It is uncertain when Burton will begin working on Dumbo since he is currently busy working on the 20th Century Fox release of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, which will be released March 2016. And if Bettlejuice 2 does get the green signal, the director will really have a lot on his plate. With things adding up for Burton, it seems like Dumbo will not be released maybe until 2017 or 2018.

Disney has been choosing the best of the best directors to handle their live action films. They recruited Kenneth Branagh to re-imagine Cinderella, while they got Bill Condon for Beauty and the Beast. Jon Favreau, meanwhile, has been given The Jungle Book.

Dumbo premiered way back on October 23, 1941 and is the fourth animated feature by Disney. The plot of Dumbo is really simple yet heart-warming. Mother elephant Mrs. Jumbo awaits the arrival of her son but when the stork delivers him, everybody was shocked because of his large ears and he was cruelly nicknamed "Dumbo."

Still, Mrs. Jumbo loves her son immensely so she lost her temper when a group of boys began bullying her son. This makes the circus crew think of Mrs. Jumbo as mad, so they lock her up. With no one to take care of him, Dumbo is left all alone until Timothy Q. Mouse sees him and decides to be his friend and protector. The two of them get on a lot of adventures and even find a way to make Dumbo fly, and this ability significantly boosts his confidence.
