Fans of the "Call of Duty" franchise have launched an online petition urging game developers to remake "Modern Warfare 2."

The petition, created through Change.org by Australian gamer Ramez Zahra less than a week ago, has now collected over 70,000 online signatures.

The game Zahra and his supporters are referring to is "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," which was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. Since the game was released for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, OS X, and Xbox 360 platforms, the fans are calling on the two companies to release an updated version of the game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In addition, the petition's author asked Infinity Ward and Activision to fix a few issues if they do decide to remake "Modern Warfare 2."

"I speak for everyone when I say that 'Modern Warfare 2' was one of Activision's best [games]," Zahra wrote. "Just a fun and enjoyable game that really gives you that nostalgic feeling."

"The guns, maps, kill streaks were just incredible," he continued. "At the moment, MW2 for the PS3 and Xbox is just overrun by hackers. If they remaster the game, and sort a couple [of] things out (e.g. noob tubing) it would make a lot of people happy."

Despite the strong support for the remake of "Modern Warfare 2," the letter is wrongly addressed to Jason West, who is named as the CEO of Infinity Ward in the petition.

The main issue here is that West was the CTO of Infinity Ward, not its CEO. In addition, in 2010, a year after the launch of "Modern Warfare 2," West and Vince Zampella, the CEO and co-founder of the development studio, were fired from the company, according to Cinema Blend.

The two then established their own company, named Respawn Entertainment, with other former Infinity Ward employees.

As for the petition, neither Activision nor Infinity Ward has responded regarding the remake of "Modern Warfare 2."
