Square Enix, the developer of the "Final Fantasy" game series, announced that it will release the "Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster" for the PlayStation 4 on May 12 of this year in North America.

Details about the release of "Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster" for Sony's next-gen console was first revealed in December of last year during a press conference held by PlayStation China in Shanghai, according to IGN.

Aside from "Final Fantasy X" and "Final Fantasy X-2," the "Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster" also includes games that were exclusively released in Japan such as "Final Fantasy X: Eternal Calm" and "Final Fantasy X-2: Last Mission."

The latest release from Square Enix will include a cross-save feature. This will enable players to save and continue their progress and achievements across the various PlayStation platforms that "Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster" was released on. Players will also be able to enjoy both the original and remastered soundtrack of the game, Polygon reported.

The game developer noted that those who pre-ordered the HD version of the game for the PlayStation 4 through the Square Enix online store or selected retail shops will receive a free calendar showcasing the works of Yoshitaka Amano. Aside from his work on "Final Fantasy" games, Amano also served as the artist and character designer for various Japanese animated films and television shows.

"Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster" was first released on Dec. 26, 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Sony's handheld console, the PlayStation Vita. Given its title, the latest version features extensive improvement in terms of its graphical quality. Although the game play experience remains the same, the HD version includes storylines that were only made available in other countries.

The HD version of the game for the PlayStation 4 will arrive in other regions shortly after the North American release.
