It will still be a good two years before Guardians of the Galaxy makes a comeback on the big screen with a sequel, but fans simply could not stop talking about the film's developments.

Apparently, one of the biggest news pertaining to the film is about a new character, which director James Gunn said was his favourite character. In fact, he was so excited about the character being in the sequel that he began writing Guardians of the Galaxy 2 the day the first movie came out, Screen Rant reported.

The five "heroes" will definitely make a return and they will be appearing alongside Nebula, who will be played by Karen Gillan, The Collector played by Benicio Del Toro, and Yondu plyed by Michael Rooker, and his right-hand man Kraglin played by Sean Gunn.

Josh Brolin will also be making an appearance in the sequel  as Thanos. Former villain Ronan the Accuser might not have died in the first movie, but Lee Pace's character won't be in the sequel.

The biggest character in the sequel is Peter Quill, who is Star-Lord's father. Gunn teased that Peter Quill will be much different from the Marvel Comics, but he will still be very important in developing Star-Lord's character.

There will also be two female characters in the main team, so one of them might just be Gunn's favourite. The character could either be Adam Warlock, Mantis, Moondragon, or Phyla-Vell.

Warlock is an important character linked to the super villain Thanos. His cocoon was featured in the first film, so it's a safe guess that he'll be in the second.

As for Mantis, Moondragon or Phyla-Vell, at least one of them would appear in the sequel as a new member of the film.

Genis-Vell would be a surprising choice if ever because unlike his sister Phyla-Vell he really isn't a member of the Guardians in the comic book universe.

It might even be possible that Al Pacino would be playing Gunn's favourite character. Pacino is a self-confessed Guardians of the Galaxy fan, and Gunn has tweeted that he would like to work with the well-known actor. Pacino has even met with Marvel to talk about a potential role, and he would be a perfect addition to the sequel.

Characters who definitely will not be in the sequel are Bug and Nova. Gunn wanted to use Bug earlier but because he's not owned by Marvel, the character is off limits. Nova was another option but the director already said that he will not be using the character "right now."
