Australian actor Hugh Jackman did a phenomenal job playing Wolverine in all the X-Men films, and he has even expressed the desire to play the clawed superhero until he dies.
But whether or not producers from 20th Century Fox will agree to his wish remains uncertain. It has not been confirmed if Jackman will be reprising his role as Wolverine in the highly anticipated movie X-Men: Apocalypse, and now there are talks that Wolverine just might appear in the upcoming Deadpool movie.
The actor is gung-ho on that idea, and so is Deadpool lead actor Ryan Reynolds, said Cinema Blend.
Jackman's Wolverine and Reynolds' Deadpool previously fought in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and they appear together as part of William Stryker's elite and deadly team of mutant killers.
Jackman told MTV UK that Wolverine and Deadpool's relationship is so intriguing because they don't always agree on things.
"They are definitely enemies in the comics, and they always spar off world together. So, I'd be open to that idea," he said.
It also helps that Jackman sees Reynolds not just as a fellow actor but also as a good friend. He called the new dad a "brilliant actor" for landing the role of Deadpool. "He will nail that," he said.
The feeling of admiration is apparently mutual on both sides since Reynolds thinks Jackman is one amazing guy. He said that Jackman is "so nice he makes ice cream look like the Manson family."
"I don't want to canonize the guy, but he's like a living, breathing saint," Reynolds told E! News.
Cinema Blend added that should Jackman ask to continue playing the role of Wolverine, producers would certainly let him since he has made such a significant impact on the X-Men cinematic universe.
Jackman earlier told Cigar Aficionado that after watching Birdman, he came to the realization that he must continue playing the role of Wolverine.
"I said to my wife, 'The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I've got to find a way to keep playing him until I die.' I know that someday they'll recast the role with another actor," he said. "I'd be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic."
If Wolverine does land a gig in Deadpool, it would be the eighth time the actor will be donning his superhero claws. This includes all three original X-Men films, two Wolverine movies, a cameo in First Class, and a role in Days of Future Past.
Deadpool will hit theatres on February 12, 2016, more than three months earlier than X-Men: Apocalypse, which is scheduled for release on May 27.
