Millenials will probably scratch their heads and wonder what the Ducktales are, but earlier generations would probably recall with great fondness the wealthy Scrooge McDuck and his naughty identical nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie.
Well, fans of the series are in for a treat since Disney XD has just given a green light for a Ducktales reboot, according to Screen Rant, so the beloved duck characters including pilot Launchpad McQuack, butler Duckworth, nanny Mrs. Beakley, granddaughter Webby, and inventor Gyro Gearloose will soon be back in the small screen.
The award-winning show from the 90s ran for 100 episodes and even had a movie spinoff called Ducktales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, which mixed the story of Aladdin since the identical triplets befriended a genie in the movie, while Scrooge tried to wish for more riches from him until he learned the hard way that what truly matters in life is not wealth, but rather family and friends.
The reboot series will premiere on Disney XD in 2017. Disney XD's Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager, Marc Buhaj offered a statement:
"DuckTales' has a special place in Disney's TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks' comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults. Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation."
With the new reboot, Ducktales will feature a more impressive production with its already compelling characters and storyline. The series has been known to make a lot of references to popular culture, such as Shakespeare, Jack the Ripper, Greek mythology, James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, and Indiana Jones.
The characters are created by Carl Barks, and the series is written also by him, Jymn Magon, Ken Koonce, David Weimers, and Bruce Talkington. The first season is directed by Alan Zaslove, while seasons two to four were manned by Bob Hathcock.
Ducktales is the one among many cartoons that are making a comeback. Other beloved shows that is set to make a comeback over the next few years include The Powerpuff Girls and Thunderbirds are Go!
Even Netflix is reportedly going to relaunch The Magic School Bus. Moreover, other cartoons such as Sailor Moon has also seen a revival.
