With Apple releasing its first ever smartwatch this April, the tech giant is reportedly making a greater effort to promote the Apple Watch, particularly in the fashion world. This may suggest Apple’s goal in branding the smartwatch as both a wearable device and a fashion accessory.
The March issue of Vogue contains a multi-page ad spread that is said to show the watch in the same size that it would be in real life.
In the advertisement, the simple images show different versions of the smartwatch which are set against a clean, white background. These include the stainless steel, 18-karat rose gold and leather loop variants of the Apple Watch.
According to Carlos Ribas of tech site 9to5Mac, the Apple Watch featured in the magazine shows the exact measurements of the smartwatch when held in real life.
A similar report was also posted by MacRumors that the images in Vogue’s latest issue are the actual size of the Apple Watch.
However, it can be difficult to confirm if such claims are true owing to the fact that Apple has not even listed the exact dimensions of the Apple Watch on its official website. The tech giant only mentioned that the upcoming wearable will come in two sizes based on height- 38mm and 42mm.
Aside from this multi-page spread on Vogue, the Apple Watch was featured on the cover of Vogue China for its November 2014 issue, marking the smartwatch’s magazine debut.
The Apple Watch can also be seen on SELF Magazine for its March 2015 issue as cover girl supermodel Candice Swanepoel wears the watch on her wrist. This new issue brings the Apple Watch’s health and fitness features to light.
Apart from magazines, Apple also came up with a pop-up shop for the smartwatch during Paris Fashion Week last October. There are also speculations that the company will be having special booths for the Apple Watch to be made available in high-end department stores in Paris. As such, Apple can take this opportunity to compete with rival luxury wristwatch brands.
Now that the Apple Watch is being continuously associated with fashion events and high-end brands, it can be useful to remember that the smartwatch will come with a starting price of $349 in the U.S. for its aluminum and glass Apple Watch Sport variant.
However, it is expected that higher-end tiers will cost more. The stainless-steel Apple Watch that comes with a display covered in sapphire crystals, for instance, is likely to come with a much higher price. The Apple Watch Edition that comes with 18-karat gold is also expected to have a price tag close to that of fine jewelry.
