The latest update on the investigation of the multiple car collision in Malibu involving Bruce Jenner this month showed that the reality TV star and famed Olympian was traveling at 38 miles per hour at the time he hit the Lexus, according to TMZ, which first broke the story.

An analysis of the data gathered from the Sensing Diagnostic Module revealed that the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was driving at around 46 to 47 miles per hour right before he hit the brakes in an attempt to save himself and the car before him from any accident. Needless to say, his effort went to waste as the said the incident resulted in the death of the driver of the white Lexus he rear ended.

According to TMZ, Jenner might not have noticed the cars stuck in traffic until it was virtually too late to slam the brakes of his own vehicle. The report also indicated that this could explain his casual and laidback demeanor mere seconds before the fatal car crash. As seen in the photos and footage from the collision, Jenner had been nonchalantly smoking a cigarette prior to colliding with the backed up vehicles. Moreover, TMZ sources claim that the entire incident happened within the span of three seconds.

"My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident. It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time," Jenner shared in a statement released following the tragedy. "I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible," he added.

In an earlier report, it was explained that Jenner was heading north when his vehicle, a black Cadillac Escalade, rear-ended the car in front of him, a white Lexus sedan, which earlier hit the back of a black Toyota Prius. The four-car pileup, which placed the celebrity's vehicle third in line, resulted in the hospitalization of seven victims. However, the driver of the Lexus died on the scene of the accident.

The investigating officer shared that the vehicle of the victim who passed away, Kim Howe, 69, swerved into the onrushing traffic in the opposite lane going south. This caused the Lexus to ram itself head-on with another incoming vehicle, a black Hummer.
