Adam Sandler may be widely renowned for his roles in numerous comedy films but his latest movie, titled The Cobbler, will grant his fans and followers another glimpse at his serious side as an actor. Described as a "magic realism comedy-drama," this film aims to inspire the audience with its touching story, according to Coming Soon.
The film features the life of Max Simkin, the character played by Sandler, as he struggle to make ends meet by keeping the shoe repair business of his family afloat throughout all the financial and economic issues it faced. The shop, which is located in the busy streets of New York, has been owned and managed by Simkin's family for a number of generations.
However, Sandler's character has been merely going through the motions in his life and no longer paid any attention to the simple pleasures that come his way. Handling the business for the most part of his life has made Simkin jaded and cynical in his outlook. He continues to feel oppressed by his situation, in which he deals with assertive and adventurous people on a day to day basis.
All his inhibitions and frustrations suddenly became a thing of the past when Simkin discovers a magical family heirloom. Although not much information was provided with respect to this object, the teasers disclosed that this will allow Sandler's character to literally walk in another man's shoes to "discover who they really are." His experiences gradually changed his way of viewing the world and began to feel grateful for the life he is leading.
Apart from Sandler, the movie will also feature Dan Stevens who starred in various big screen hits like Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and A Walk Among the Tombstones as well as in popular TV shows such as The Tomorrow People, Downton Abbey, and Sense & Sensibility.
Dustin Hoffman, who was the voice behind Master Shifu in the Kung Fu Panda franchise as well as the renowned actor featured in notable films such as Kramer vs. Kramer, Tootsie, and Rain Man, took part in The Cobbler as well. Steve Buscami, who has recently became a staple in small screen shows including Boardwalk Empire and Portlandia, was also in the film. Melonie Diaz, Method Man, Dsacha Polanco, and Sondra James were announced as part of the cast as well.
The Cobbler, scheduled to be released on March 13, 2015, was directed by Thomas McCarthy who also co-wrote the film with Paul Sado.
