The latest superhero to make his debut is Aquaman, who will be played by the Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa. Although the movie is set to be released in the big screens in 2018, the public attention it garnerd has been overwhelming and was even fueled by the film's director himself, according to The Guardian.
Zack Snyder, who has been reported to direct a number of upcoming superhero movies from Marvel slated for release in the next five years including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as well as parts one and two of The Justice League, recently shared in the social networking site, Twitter, a photo that ignited virtually frantic speculations among fans and followers regarding the possible storyline of Aquaman.
The Twitter post of the renowned director had an accompanying caption that said, "There is only one true King. #unitetheseven" In the picture, it could be seen that the old colorful costume of Aquaman has been replaced by an edgier, polished, and classier look. Hence, fans and followers of the old Aquaman that wore a green and orange costume might be a bit taken back by the radical departure of this new version.
Momoa's Aquaman version has a monochromatic ensemble. The scales, which used to be quite problematic in the old edition, have been depicted by tattooing these to his skin. Momoa is also seen holding a trident with five prongs and wearing a pair of gauntlets colored gold and black. His shoulder pauldron also has the same color scheme of black and gold.
Apart from the extreme makeover of Aquaman, the caption included in the photo prompted some to conjecture on whether this movie will be Disney's response to the success of Marvel's Avengers' franchise. The hashtag, "unitetheseven," could be speculated to refer to the seven known members of the superhero group, called The Justice League. This team include the Green Lantern, Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, The Flash, the Martian Manhunter, and of course, Aquaman.
Prior to these projects, Snyder has been widely renowned for directing blockbuster films such as Man of Steel, Sucker Punch, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Watchmen, and 300. Meanwhile, Momoa rose to fame in his stint as Jason Ioane in the hit TV series Baywatch. He also appeared in North Shore, Stargate: Atlantis, and The Game. One of his most notable big screen roles was taking on the lead role for Conan the Barbarian in 2011.
