The latest rumors swirling around "Mortal Kombat X" revealed that the titular alien character from the "Predator" film franchise will appear in NetherRealm Studios' latest fighting game.
According to an anonymous source, Predator will join "Mortal Kombat X" as a playable character through a special DLC, Videogamer reported.
This is not the first time the extraterrestrial hunter was rumored to be part of the game. In July of last year, the game's director Ed Boon retweeted an image of the Predator facing off against Scorpion. The image also featured the logo and title of "Mortal Kombat X" in the middle.
As revealed by the insider, the film-based character will join the game in June through the release of the Predator DLC. Aside from the Predator, the fictional character Colonel Al Dillon will also be included in the content update.
In the first "Predator" film which debuted in 1987, Dillon is a C.I.A. operative who was played by Carl Weathers. He is an old military friend of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Dutch, the leader of a special operations team that was deployed in a jungle in Central America to rescue a government official who was kidnapped by guerilla forces.
The source noted that Weathers has reportedly expressed his interest to cooperate with NetherRealms in using his likeness to develop the Dillon character for "Mortal Kombat X."
Despite these rumors, the game's publisher Warner Bros. and developer are yet to release official statements confirming the appearance of Predator and Dillon in the latest installment of the "Mortal Kombat" Series.
Another rumored individual that could join "Mortal Kombat X" is Spawn, the titular character from the television, video game, film and comic series of the same name. This was confirmed by the series' creator Todd McFarlane, who said he had already approved Warner Bros.' request to use the character's likeness in "Mortal Kombat X," Gamerfitnation reported.
However, McFarlane noted that even though he has already given his permission, he is still not sure if NetherRealms and Warner Bros. will use Spawn in the game.
"I don't know if they're ever gonna use it," he told Gamerfitnation. "They just might squat on it."
