Will Smith has been rolling out edgier and more serious movies recently. According to Hollywood Reporter, the Men In Black star will be playing the lead role in the upcoming movie titled "Bounty".

According to the report, the story revolves around a man who was wrongfully and unjustly convicted of the crime of murder. Despite his insistent denial of his involvement in the said crime, he was still sent to prison to pay for the death of a person he never even touched. The scenes are said to be set in Boston.

Sascha Penn, who contributed to the success of Survivor's Remorse, Power, Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives, and Imagination Movers, is behind the script for this upcoming project. Working hand in hand with Paramount Pictures, Smith has been rumored to be the lead actor chosen to bring to life the ordeals and adventures of the man featured in the script.

Smith's character then exerts considerable efforts to prove his innocence. The first step he reportedly took to achieve his goal was to escape from jail. His breakout from prison was indubitably met with fury and disappointment not only by the guards assigned to keep an eye on him but also, and more significantly, by the widow of the person he was convicted of murdering.

In an effort to avenge her husband's death, the grieving widow decides to issue a bounty worth US$10 million on Smith's head. In accordance with the terms of the bounty, the escaped convict should be presented to the widow dead or alive.

The movie will be produced by Smith's Overbrook Entertainment, which also produced the 2014 hit musical film Annie. Adam Kolbrenner of Madhouse Entertainment will serve the same post as well. Meanwhile, Robyn Meisinger of Madhouse and Alana Mayo of Paramount will executively produce the project.

Meisinger was also recognized as an executive producer for numerous TV and big screen projects such as Everest, Prisoners, Hot Mess, and Bounty Hunter. As for Mayo, she was part of the behind-the-scenes team of hit films including Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, I Love You Phillip Morris, and Get Smart's Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control.

Smith is also slated to star in various other big screen projects including Bad Boys 3, The American Can, Suicide Squad, Concussion, and Selling Time.
