Following the announcement of the latest ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ animated series last year and a long period of scarce details about its progress, Disney and Marvel Entertainment have now added more members into the series’ official cast.
Trevor Devall will be joining the animated ‘Guardians’s spinoff to lend his voice as Rocket Raccoon. His best partner in crime, Groot, will be voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, as announced last Tuesday.
According to his official IMDB page, Devall is referred to as a ‘prolific voice actor’ and has had a wide range of experience when it comes to animated productions. These include movies, television series, feature films and videos games.
Specifically, he voiced popular characters such as Dukey in Disney Channel’s ‘Johnny Test’, Ikaris in Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ and Pyro in ‘X-Men: Evolution.’
Anime fans may also recognize Devall’s voice in the English dubbing of ‘Gundam SEED’, ‘Gundam SEED Destiny’ and ‘InuYasha.’
Meanwhile, fellow cast member Richardson has also provided his voice for several popular shows including ‘Family Guy’, ‘The Cleveland Show’, ‘Teen Titans’, ‘Batman’ and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.'
The voice actor has often taken on villainous roles and characters, thanks to his powerfully deep voice.
With Devall and Richardson already joining the cast, Disney and Marvel are expected to continue announcing the lineup this week.
Moving on from TV adaptations to huge Hollywood movies, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ will not be strictly following the storyline as set in the comic book.
The upcoming film’s writer and director, James Gunn, shared that he contributed his own ideas to the movie, which Marvel deemed as ‘risky.’ Nonetheless, they are now giving it a shot and Gunn is expected to submit his story in the next couple of weeks.
"It’s different than what’s in the comic books," Gunn explained. "Peter Quill’s father is somebody different in the comics. So then when the movie came out, we got greenlit on the sequel right away.
He continued: “I went in and I sat down with those guys and I’m like, ‘OK, here’s what I think the sequel should be.’ And they were like, ‘Oh, whoa. That’s risky, but okay.’ Now I’m going to turn over the story in a few short weeks and we’ll find out how well it works."
According to Gunn, his ideas for the sequel began to develop when he was filming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He promised that fans will get to know their favorite characters more while meeting new ones who are deemed to be highly important in the ‘Guardians’ films as well as in the Marvel universe.
Marvel Studios has already made the official announcement that the upcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ sequel will hit cinemas on May 5, 2017.
