The camaraderie among the Avengers, which include the world's mightiest superheroes plus a demi-god, may seem unyielding in the face of countless adversities, it appears that the conflicting beliefs of Captain America and Iron Man might actually tear the group apart.
In an interview with Empire, Robert Downey Jr., the man behind the widely popular Tony Stark and Iron Man, hinted on the possibility of going against the wishes of Chris Evans' Captain America. With this news publicized, fans and followers of the billionaire superhero began to speculate whether Captain America 3: Civil War will show a brand new evil version of Iron Man.
"I wouldn't put it that way. Ultimately it's Steve's story; it doesn't say 'Iron Man 4: Civil War'. I think that's great too," Downey explained. "I think Chris [Evans] has been hungry to bring even more of an underside and some shadow to that. I remember the comics - on the surface you got the sense that Cap was baseball and apple pie, but underneath there was all this churning stuff of being a man out of time," he further elucidated.
In setting aside the issue of identity and adjustment experienced by Evans' character in the film, Downey shared that the central plot in the upcoming Captain America film "can have a little something to do with the past, but it can be about someone becoming more modernized in their own conflict."
If the comic book series will be used as basis to speculate on the potential root of the conflict between the two, then the issue will definitely involve their contradicting stands on the Hero Registration Act proposed by the government of the United States.
"The main thing to me is, and this is where I think the Russos are quite brilliant and where Kevin backed the play, is what sort of incident could occur and what sort of framework could we find Tony in?" Downey hinted, regarding his stand on the said issue.
He also added that the "clues" on this possible change in his character could be found in the Avengers: Age of Ultron. "But what would it take for Tony to completely turn around everything he's stood for, quote-unquote, because he was the right-wing guy who could still do his own thing," the Iron Man actor shared.
Apart from Downey, the third installment for the Captain America franchise will also feature Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Daniel Bruhl in an unknown role as of the moment, Frank Grillo as Crossbones, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. Hawkeye, who is portrayed by Jeremy Renner, is also speculated to be part of the cast.
Meanwhile, a lot of fans and followers of the Marvel superheroes are eagerly waiting for the studio to finally pick a new actor to play Spider-Man, who will be part of this film as well. Captain America 3: Civil War is scheduled to premiere on May 6, 2016.
