The airing of the final episodes for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Season 15 on Sunday places fans and followers of the show on the edge with respect to the future of their favorite small screen investigative crime series.

Apart from the fact that no official announcement has been released regarding the possibility of a Season 16 for the widely appreciated show, the news of George Eads' decision to leave the team further fuels the anxiety of the viewers, according to Cartermatt.com.

"We haven't determined yet what's going to happen with CSI. The show continues to be a strong performer and does very well in its time period. You look at the journey that the show has gone on [with assorted cast changes over the years].... We're just incredibly proud," according to an earlier report on CBS president Nina Tassler's response during the Television Critics Association winter press tour in January when asked about show's future in terms of getting renewed for another season.

Various spoilers revealed that the two-hour finale on Sunday will double as a farewell to Eads, who plays the character Nick Stokes in the show. Although the central story will definitely focus on the Gig Harbor Killer, it is highly likely that the team will also pay tribute to Stokes' contribution to the show.

Don McGill, one of the executive producers of the series, shared that the entire cast and crew worked hard to create a fitting homage to not only the departing character, but also to the actor who portrayed him. He also shared that they hope that their efforts will be welcomed with appreciation by the fans of the show and Stokes.

The two final episodes for this season are titled Under My Skin and The End Game. These will feature the murder and kidnapping of two young ladies, which have rattled the team since the beginning.

Apart from the usual investigation procedures and the team's meticulous manner of handling cases that never fail to amaze the viewers, the episode will showcase an action packed showdown involving both the CSI crew and the killer. The encounter will culminate in the revelation of the Gig Harbor's motivation, or reason in committing such crimes.

Following this adrenaline fueled encounter will be the announcement of Stokes to presumably leave the team. Despite the news, CSI fans have already been assured earlier this year that their favorite character will not meet a tragic end. In fact, McGill was clear that the farewell episode will be a poignant and moving tribute to Stokes.
