What happens when our favourite web-slinging hero teams up with genius Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man and war hero Captain America?

Well, fans will soon find out the answer to this question as Sony Pictures Entertainment finally agreed to bring Spider-Man to Disney and Marvel Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe, USA Today reported.

Spider-Man will first appear in a Marvel film before getting his solo feature that is scheduled to invade theatres on July 28, 2017. The solo movie will be produced by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and former Sony studio head Amy Pascal.

"Amy has been deeply involved in the realization on film of one of the world's most beloved characters," Feige said in a statement. "Marvel's involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU. I am equally excited for the opportunity to have Spider-Man appear in the MCU, something which both we at Marvel, and fans alike, have been looking forward to for years."

And while the long-awaited deal has finally pushed through, there are still no news who will play the nerdy photographer Peter Parker.

Andrew Garfield gave life to the superhero in two big-screen projects, but there is a possibility that a different actor will be giving new face to Spider-Man as he shares the limelight with Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Chris Evans' Captain America in Captain America: Civil War.

Captain America will begin filming this spring and is slated to arrive in theaters May 6, 2016. According to the Marvel comic storyline, Spider-Man will play a major role.

At the same time, Marvel and Sony are looking for ways to bring MCU characters into future Spider-Man movies. This means that other Marvel movies such as Thor: Ragnarok will be moved back to November 3, 2017. Meanwhile, Captain Marvel starring Chadwick Boseman will move to July 6, 2018, and the first female-led Marvel project will now open November 2, 2018, thus pushing Inhumans to July 12, 2019.

Spider-Man's move is also considered a dream come true for many comic-book movie fans who've been waiting for Spidey to enter the Marvel fold.

"Spider-Man is one of Marvel's great characters, beloved around the world," said Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger. "We're thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building."
