Duchess Kate Middleton is proving to the world that she is more than just a pretty face. The pregnant royal recently made a private visit to Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital School in Beckenham, Kent to check on the children that are currently staying there.

The Daily Mail reported that Kate spent an hour and a half meeting with the kids and staff, and her presence really brightened up the place.

Kensington Palace also said in a statement that the visit was arranged through Place2Be, a non-profit organization where the duchess serves as a patron since 2013. The organization provides mental health services to kids in schools, particularly those in areas of socioeconomic deprivation.

"This visit was arranged through Place2Be, of which HRH is Royal Patron, after learning about their work during the Place 2 Reflect conference last year to further develop her knowledge of the sector," a palace spokesperson said.

Kate is very passionate about Place2Be's cause and has expressed interest in helping provide children with early intervention before their mental health worsens.

The pregnant duchess first heard about the school through head teacher Dr. John Ivens, an educational psychologist, who spoke at the Place2Be conference on children's mental health last June.

The Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital School caters to pupils who are patients of the Bethlem or Maudsley Hospitals. It provides education for boys,  girls and adolescents aged 4 to 19.

Because of their visit, the island has heightened its security to cater to the privacy and protection of their special guests.

Kate just came back from her family vacation in Mustique, where the Middletons celebrated Kate's mother Carole's 60th birthday, together with husband Prince William and Prince George.

Both Prince William and Kate still do not know the gender of their second baby, so it's still not sure whether Prince George will soon have a baby brother or a sister to play with.

The palace confirmed to E! News, "The couple do not know what the sex of the baby is!"

People have been busy speculating what the royal couple will name their baby should it be a girl. It's a toss-up between Diana and Elizabeth - the first is the name of Prince William's late mother while the second is a traditional royal name.
