Sophie Turner, who gained prominence for her role in the television series franchise of the novel "The Game of Thrones," is now turning her attention to playing the highly anticipated X-Men character: Jean Grey. In an interview with IGN, the actress revealed her insights on her new groundbreaking part as well as discussed the possible implications of her previous roles to her casting.

"I think maybe one of the reasons that they chose me for [Jean] is because they saw the dark side of Sansa," Turner shared during the interview. This was in reference to her role as Sansa Stark, one of the major characters in The Game of Thrones. "Maybe they're thinking, 'Oh, Phoenix, Jean Grey.' I definitely see a lot of parallels in there," she added.

Turner also shared that the struggles of both Sansa and Jean Grey are almost identical in terms of dealing with power as well as with regards to "not being accepted in the human world." She explained her idea that maybe both women only aim to live normal lives but are forced to shun this dream due to the circumstances surrounding their existence.

For Sansa, she is demanded to face both advantages and disadvantages of her position in society. Meanwhile, Jean Grey is one of the founding members of the X-Men who possesses formidable telekinetic powers and telepathic abilities.

"I think in terms of [Game of Thrones], that's kind of the way Sansa felt in that she really wanted to be a normal princess/queen and live a normal life - and she doesn't, because of all this havoc happens. I think Jean, in a way, feels that," Turner elucidated.

Prior to Turner, the role of Jean Grey was played by the incredibly talented Famke Janssen. With respect to this aspect of the character, The Game of Thrones actress shared her aim to "emulate Famke in a sense, because she has to seem like the Jean in the first two movies, but I'm also going to put my own twist on her." She added that she might also take inspiration from the comics.

Apart from Turner, the other new characters in X-Men: Apocalypse include Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, and Nicholas Hoult.
