CBS will try its hand at another spinoff for the hit television program Criminal Minds as reports of the inclusion of CSI: New York star, Gary Sinise, in the speculated show surfaced, according to Cartermatt.com.
A Twitter post by one of the lead stars in Criminal Minds, Joe Mantegna, showed him with Sinise. It was captioned, "Welcome my pal @GarySinise to the Criminal Minds family!" Fans and followers of the show took this post as a confirmation of the speculations surrounding the possibility of a spinoff as well as the actors to be included in the upcoming program.
This new spinoff will put Sinise on the lead, and will feature a team of experts working together to solve crimes committed internationally. The basic premise of the show lies on the goal of the team to extend their skills and expertise to fight the major crimes perpetrated against American citizens living abroad.
Earlier reports reveal that Sinise will portray the role of the 20-year investigative veteran named Jack Garrett. His character will be in charge of supervising a group of agents from the FBI. Moreover, the spinoff is set to start filming by mid-February. Hence, the post Mantegna on Twitter indicated that the show's executives stuck to the time table as planned.
Apart from Sinise, Anna Gunn will also be part of the show. She earlier gained worldwide recognition for her role as Walter White's wife in the hit series Breaking Bad. According to The Inquistr, Gunn will be laying the lead female role named Ally Lambert who is an international law expert as well as a renowned linguist.
This project will mark the second attempt of Criminal Minds to venture into expanding the show outside its current plot and characters. The first attempt was made in 2011 through the spinoff series titled Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, which starred the widely renowned Forest Whitetaker as Special Agent Sam Cooper.
The spinoff series will have Erica Messer, Mark Gordon, and Nick Pepper as executive producers. Meanwhile, Messer will also serve as the writer. In addition, ABC Studios will be working with The Mark Gordon Company and CBS Television Studios as producers.
