Liam Neeson's hilarious "Clash of Clans" commercial was Super Bowl's biggest commercial hit, even trumping the ones produced by Budweiser, Nissan, Snickers and other big brand names.
Finnish developer Supercell's Clash of Clans was a genius for incorporating Neeson's Taken franchise success into to the commercial, The Guardian reported.
Not only was it a big hit during the Super Bowl, but it has been watched over 36 million times on YouTube! That is twice more than the 17.9 million views for T-Mobile's #KimsDataStash commercial, which starred Kim Kardashian.
Neeson's popular line from the 2008 film Taken, "I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you" has been spoofed so many times before, but never has it been used on something as simple as a mobile game the likes of Clash of Clans.
A grim-looking Neeson just witnessed his clan destroyed by a user named BigBuffetBoy85, and he delivers a daunting soliloquy, "I don't know you, BigBuffetBoy85, but if you think you can humiliate me and take my gold, think again. Oh, I am coming for you with lots of barbarians and dragons. I can't wait to destroy your village, while you beg for mercy, but you will get no mercy. I will have my revenge."
He was interrupted by a waiter who called out his name and pronounced it "Lie-am." "Scones for Liam!" the cheerful waiter said.
Neeson looks up from the screen, gets his scones, and corrects him, "It's Liam." The waiter drops his mouth out of fear.
The actor then continues his warning to BigBuffetBoy85 and said, "You will regret the day you crossed AngryNeeson52" and clicked on the "Revenge" button.
Aside from Supercell, another mobile game firm which showed a commercial during the Super Bowl was Developer Machine Zone. It advertised its Game of War - Fire Age game with a sultry commercial featuring The Other Woman actress Kate Upton. Its success is minimal compared to Supercell's, since it only got five million views on YouTube.
Supercell made $892 million in 2013 from two games - Clash of Clans and Hay Day. Though it has not yet provided figures for 2014, research firm Superdata said that Clash of Clans alone made $1.8 billion that year.
The mobile games are reaping more attention on YouTube, since for the first six weeks of 2015, its users have collectively watched more than seven million hours of Super Bowl ads and teasers, an up from 6.3m hours in the whole of 2014.
