Is Katy Perry turning over a new leaf? The pop singer seems to be going back to her Christian roots after she posted a Psalm 118:24 Bible verse on her Twitter account right before her Super Bowl XLIX performance.
"Today is the day that the Lord has made! I will rejoice and be glad in it," she tweeted to her over 64 million followers on Sunday.
After her performance, Perry also shouted to the crowd, "God bless America!"
Perry earlier had a falling out with her parents, who are both Christian ministers, after she gained worldwide fame for her song "I Kissed a Girl" since it contradicts the teachings of the Bible. But Perry has always insisted that she has a good relationship with her parents even if she's not a Christian.
"I'm not a Buddhist, I'm not a Hindu, I'm not a Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God," she told Marie Claire in an interview. "I pray all the time-for self-control, for humility. There's a lot of gratitude in it. Just saying 'thank you' sometimes is better than asking for things."
Perry also admitted that she relies on the works of Eckhart Tolle, author of The Power of Now, transcendental meditation, and therapy. Tolle's book inspired her song "This Moment" while she considers transcendental meditation "the best thing I got out of my previous relationship, because it was introduced to me via my ex husband."
Perry was previously married to actor Russel Brand.
Meanwhile, her father Keith Hudson even said that he will always be proud of his little girl despite their differences.
"I don't have a problem," he told the Daily Mail, referring to his daughter's career. "She's gonna do some good ones - she's excited about her Super Bowl performance."
He earlier lamented that Perry's songs goes against everything they stand for and believe in. "They ask how can I preach if I produce a girl who sang about kissing another girl? I was at a concert of Katy's where there were 20,000. I'm watching this generation and they were going at it. It almost looked like church. I stood there and wept and kept on weeping and weeping," Hudson said.
But it seems like Perry and her parents have made amends since then.
Right after the New England Patriots' Super Bowl victory, Perry got an "XLIX" tattoo to commemorate her halftime performance on her right ring finger. It is connected to the "Jesus" tattoo on her inner left wrist.
