Fans of Marvel superheroes may be stunned by the latest speculation that Captain America will be betrayed by a fellow Marvel hero in the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" film.
The third installment of the ‘Captain America’ series will reportedly bring forth Iron Man as the main antagonist to the military-reject-turned-super-soldier. Following the storyline based on the comic book, Tony Stark will deceive his friends by showing loyalty to the government who, in turn, will support him in his ventures.
Such unfortunate circumstances will reportedly be one of the highlights in the forthcoming film ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’
However, when asked about such rumors about his role in the upcoming Marvel movies, Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. is leaving a trail of clues that the superhero may not essentially transform into a villain.
When asked if Iron Man would ever betray his friends’ trust, Downey answered, “I wouldn’t put it that way.”
Looking into the comic book plotline, the ‘Civil War’ began at the time when the Superhuman Registration Act was created by the government, which became the main cause of Iron Man and Captain America’s dispute. With differing goals, Captain America sought for individual freedom whereas Iron Man preferred to go with the government’s decision to take control.
Nonetheless, it remains unconfirmed whether Iron Man will really be the villain in ‘Captain America 3.’
Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. will be reprising their roles as Steve Rogers aka Captain America and Tony Stark aka Iron Man in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ Additions to the cast include Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther and Frank Gillo as Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones.
Daniel Bruhl was said to be joining the cast as a villain in the film, but such details are not yet confirmed. However, Movie Casting Call hints that Bruhl may be playing the role of Baron Zemo, Captain America’s main foe in the comic book story. Being a Nazi scientist, the transformation of Bucky Barnes into the Winter Soldier can be attributed to him.
"Captain America: Civil War" will make its official release in theaters on May 2016.
