With the luxurious 18k gold edition of the Apple Watch coming out, Apple has heightened security by installing custom-made safes to be placed in its stores.
A number of the safes have already been distributed and have been integrated with MagSafe chargers to make sure that the watches are charged at all times, as reported by tech site 9to5Mac.
The safes are “likely to be used to carry both to-be-sold inventory as well as to store demo units from the show floor overnight,” the tech blog claims.
Aside from increased security, the Cupertino-based company is reportedly developing special equipments to prevent customers from purchasing the watch, having the gold removed or replaced with fake gold, and returning it to the store to make false complaints.
Although there have been no official announcements regarding the price of the 18k gold Apple Watch, there have been rumors that the device will be sold with a price tag between $1,200 and $5,000. On the other hand, the basic Apple Watch model can be purchased for a starting price of $349.
Apple reportedly released the expensive version of their watch to compete with companies offering luxury watches.
As pointed out by Apple CEO Tim Cook, the Apple Watch will hit the market in April.
With just a few months more before its official release, it has been reported that there have been ‘spy shots’ of Apple employees testing out the smartwatch in public, particularly in Cupertino, California.
For those interested in other Apple Watch designs, there will be six interchangeable straps that will be made available, including the Link Bracelet, Sport Band, Leather Loop, Classic Buckle, Modern Buckle and Milanese Loop.
The smartwatch’s designs have also been classified into three -- the basic Apple watch that comes with a sleek case produced from stainless steel, the Apple Watch Sport collection that is integrated with an anodized aluminum case and boasts greater strength, and the Apple Watch gold edition that will be made from 18k gold, which is said to be as hard and durable as standard gold.
The Apple Watch is known to highlight the tech giant’s entry into a new product category following the release of the first iPad in 2010. Tech experts and industry analysts alike have already shared their expectations that the Apple Watch will be making a huge buzz for the wearables industry.
