Christian Director Tim Chey of the film David and Goliath promised to deliver a more Biblically-relevant story and not commit the same mistakes earlier faith-based films did such as "Noah" and "Exodus: Gods and Kings."
"Well first off, I'm not only a director, but also an evangelist," he told the Christian Post. "So obviously I'm not going to make a film that's biblically not correct or does not give honor to the Lord."
People have slammed Noah and Exodus for veering away from the real story of the Bible, and this is what Chey will avoid at all costs. It didn't help that actor Christian Bale described his character Moses as "barbaric" and "schizrophenic."
"There are no rock monsters helping David unfortunately," Chey joked. "But kidding aside, I wanted to make a film that will reinvigorate the kind of faith the future King of Israel had, namely fighting a giant with a zero percent chance of defeating him outside of God."
In an earlier interview with The Christian Post back in April 2014, Chey revealed his journey towards Christianity, and shared how he transformed from being an atheist to a devoted Christian.
"I was a former atheist who found Christ in a hotel room after reading a Gideon's Bible in Manila. I never looked back after that," Chey said. "Our production company has had this film 'David and Goliath' in the works for almost 11 years. We realized to film it right we needed to shoot the film on a grand scale."
Chey also said that he hopes audiences will be "moved to tears" from the movie, and inspire them to increase their faith in God.
"I want them to stop being lukewarm. To make a stand for God. To slay the demonic giants who beseech us in this life. I want them to leave the theater and say, 'I will make a stand for the Lord' and tell those giants 'You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God,'" Chey said.
Chey's David and Goliath have just wrapped up principal photography in North Africa and in studios in London. It is set for nationwide release on April 3. The tallest man in Canada, 7'8 tall Jerry Sokolosky, has been chosen to play Philistine warrior Goliath.
"Jerry was a tremendous blessing," said Chey. "We didn't want to create a CGI imitation like 'The Incredible Hulk' and so our casting directors set out to find the biggest guy and he's very big."
