Kung Fu Panda 3 is set to invade the big screen on March 28, 2016, and the world's most beloved cartoon panda is expected to have a heart-warming reunion with his biological father in the third instalment of the movie.
"Continuing on his now legendary adventures of awesomeness, Po must face two hugely epic, but very different threats: one supernatural and the other a little closer to home," teased DreamWorks.
The movie was expected to hit theatres in December, but the release date was moved so that the the movie will not compete with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
And while there are no official plot synopsis yet, the rumour mill has been churning that Po will be reunited with his real father.
Teasertrailer.com said that "the film will likely reunite the panda Po and his biological parents since we learned that they're still alive at the end of the second film."
Po's father was separated from his family after Lord Shen and his cronies invaded their village. But at the end of Kung Fu Panda 2, it was revealed that Po's father was living in a hidden village far away from the Valley of Peace with other pandas.
"We basically talked about where we would go in the third one in the second one. We really finished Kung Fu Panda 2 with the real father of Po saying 'My son is alive,' so that allows us to continue that arc of Po as a character," executive producer Guillermo Del Toro told Collider.
Other rumours surrounding the third instalment concern the villain as well, since Po and the rest of his friends will be dealing with the deadliest one yet.
"All I can say is the bad guy in the third is possibly the most formidable villain in the series. We finished an outline, we presented a character design, we presented a couple of sequences in storyboard, and we're very hard at work on a screenplay," he added.
No other reports are available about the voice behind the villain, but Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad is expected to play a key character in the movie.
The movie stars Jack Black as Dragon Warrior Po and Angelina Jolie as the Tigress. Meanwhile, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross and Dustin Hoffman will reprise their roles as Mantis, Viper, Crane and Master Shifu, respectively.
The film will be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and produced by Melissa Cobb. It will be co-produced by Jeffrey Hermann along with Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, who also wrote and co-produced the original films.
