The hit television series "Game of Thrones" will be the first ever small screen show to be screened on IMAX and will run for an entire week from starting Jan. 23, Entertainment Weekly reported.
In an unprecedented move, George R.R. Martin's fictional tales turned into a popular television show will be featured in more than 150 IMAX theaters in the United States. Fans of the series will be entertained with two episodes from the fourth season of "Game of Thrones."
Although the episodes of the fantasy drama were already aired not only on its home network HBO, but also on other sites, the producers are still optimistic that the IMAX version will offer something new to the viewers.
"The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format," explained the chief marketing officer of HBO, Pamela Levine.
"We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event," Levine added.
One of the two episodes coming to IMAX is the ninth episode of Season 4, titled 'The Watchers on the Wall.' This featured the phenomenal and highly acclaimed battle dubbed as the 'Battle of Castle Black.'
The other is the season's tenth episode, "The Children", which showcased an epic confrontation between Tryon Lannister and his father, Tywin Lannister. This episode was immensely applauded by fans and critics, and earned a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award.
By remastering the two episodes of the series to comply with the IMAX format, producers expect that fans will appreciate the two episodes since the visual effects would better captivate the fantasy world created by Martin.
Asidet from the remastered versions of the series, the viewers will also be granted the chance to watch the exclusive trailer for the fifth season of The Game of Thrones.
"Imax always seeks innovative ways to provide moviegoers a unique and differentiated experience and today's partnership with HBO and 'Game of Thrones' achieves just that," disclosed the CEO of IMAX, Richard L. Gelfond.
Gelfond also added that the partnership with HBO will help achieve their goal "to offer exhibitors the opportunity to participate in alternative forms of content in a new and exciting way."
