Sony has made the official announcement that it will be introducing a prototype for one of its newest detachable devices which can be placed on basically any piece of eyewear using a clip.

Dubbed as the SmartEyeglass Attach, this forthcoming single-lens display gadget can be clipped to any pair of eyeglass. A processor has been incorporated into the right side of the device, connecting to an OLED display which then converts into an image that has been projected into the lenses. On its left are the accelerometer, compass and other different sensors.

Sony has explained how such forthcoming device can be integrated into users' everyday lives.

"The display module possesses the potential to enrich users' lives in a variety of ways," Sony stated. "by simply attaching it to a pair of fashionable glasses, goggles, sunglasses or other type of eyewear, you can instantly gain access to visual information that adds a level of convenience to your everyday life."

The company is looking forward to impressing the sports industry, photography enthusiasts and workplaces which can benefit most from the SmartEyeglass Attach. Sony is expected to collaborate with other companies, including eyewear and electronics manufacturers, to have the device integrated into other compatible products.

The SmartEyeglass Attach makes use of high-density packing technology that has enabled it to arrange a miniature control board, OLED display and Bluetooth support altogether. Aside from these, Sony has also managed to squeeze in the optical unit that converts the display into images straight onto the screen.

With a Micro-Optical Unit, superior image projection can be expected whether users go through bright outdoor conditions or dark indoor locations.

In addition, Sony may also be generating software development kits that will be made available to developers for them to utilize the processing capabilities of the display module. Thanks to such component of the device, it can be compared to smartphones that can include relevant apps for smart eyewear.

"This will make possible a whole new level of potential ways to use the module that could provide users with even greater convenience," Sony stated.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Sony will be introducing the SmartEyeglass Attach in Las Vegas. It will be presented as a prototype which will be used for outdoor activities, including sports and recreation.
